Augustine Classical Guitar Strings

Albert Augustine, a Danish immigrant and pioneering luthier, revolutionized classical guitar strings in the 1940s by developing the first nylon strings in collaboration with virtuoso Andrés Segovia. Frustrated by the wartime scarcity and inconsistency of gut strings, Augustine experimented with DuPont's new nylon material, crafting a more durable and reliable alternative that transformed guitar performance. His innovative strings quickly gained global acclaim, used by legends like Segovia, Olga Coelho, the Abreu Brothers, and Julian Bream. After Albert’s passing, his wife Rose, a Bronx chemistry teacher, continued his legacy, growing Augustine Strings into a cornerstone of the classical guitar world—an enduring symbol of innovation, artistry, and community.
